A4 or Letter size cardstock in various colors
Scissors
Glue stick

Craft Foam Jester's Hat

Craft foam
A4 or Letter size paper
Small pompoms or jingle bells
Scissors
Hole punch
Pencil
White glue
Glue gun

STEPS

Paper Jester's Hat

Step 1 Paper Jester's Hat

1Print out the template.

Print out the Paper Jester's Hat Template on various colors of A4 or Letter size cardstock:

Page 1 - three copies
Page 2 - one copy
Page 3 - one copy

Step 2 Paper Jester's Hat

2Cut out the template pieces.

Cut out all the pieces from each of the five pages. You should have 3 straight bands, 6 triangles, and 12 circles.

Step 3 Paper Jester's Hat

3Glue the straight bands together.

To make a long band that goes around your head, glue two straight bands together on one end. Measure this around your head. If it is too short, glue the third band and trim off any excess length.

Step 4 Paper Jester's Hat

4Glue the first triangle.

Take one of the triangles. Glue it close to one corner of the band. Its base should be near the band's bottom edge.

Step 5 Paper Jester's Hat

5Glue the second triangle.

Glue the next triangle beside the first one, similarly aligning its base close to the band's bottom edge. You can overlap the triangles slightly, especially if the hat is to be worn by a small child.

Step 6 Paper Jester's Hat

6Glue the rest of the triangles.

Glue the rest of the triangles to the band. Leave a short length of band after the last triangle.

7Glue the ends of the band together.

Glue the extra length of band after the last triangle behind the band's opposite end. You could also check again whether the hat fits around your head before gluing the ends together.

Step 8 Paper Jester's Hat

8Glue one circle.

Glue a circle onto the tip a triangle.

Step 9 Paper Jester's Hat

9Glue a second circle.

Glue a second circle at the back of the first one so that the triangle's tip is sandwiched in between the pair of circles.

Step 10 Paper Jester's Hat

10Glue the rest of the circles.

Glue the rest of the circles by pairs onto the tips of the triangles following Steps 8 and 9.

Step 11 Paper Jester's Hat

11Decorate the base.

Decorate the base of the hat with stickers, paper cut-outs or glitter glue.

Step 12 Paper Jester's Hat

12Curl the tips.

To make the tips of your hat curl downwards, hold a pencil against the base of one triangle. With your thumb on the pencil and your index finger supporting the pencil from behind the paper, slowly pull the pencil up all the way to the tip of the triangle.

13Wear the hat.

Once all the tips are curled, you're all set to wear your paper jester's hat!

2Cut out the template.

Cut out the two template pieces.

3Trace onto craft foam.

Using a pencil, trace the outline of each template piece onto craft foam:

Triangle template - trace 6 times on two or more colors of craft foam.
Straight band template - trace on craft foam to create a band long enough to go around your head.

4Cut out the craft foam.

Cut out the craft foam pieces.

Step 5 Craft Foam Jester's Hat

5Glue the triangles.

Glue the triangles onto the straight band as described in Steps 4 to 6 above.

Step 6 Craft Foam Jester's Hat

6Assemble the hat.

Use a glue gun or a stapler to join the ends of the band together to form a hat. Decorate the base of the hat with colorful foam shapes or stickers.

Glue a small jingle bell or pompom at the tips of the triangles. Curl the tips of the triangles with a pencil as described in Step 12 of the previous section.
